A sad refrain
Sarajevo musician Vedran Smailović performs during the Bosnian war in the partially destroyed National Library. The cellist often played for free at funerals during the siege despite the fact such events were often targeted by Serb militia.

Long may it wave
United States Forces-Iraq service members sit with their new American flags on their laps. During a naturalization ceremony on the Nation’s birthday in Al Faw Palace at Camp Victory, Iraq, 156 service members from 56 countries became U.S. citizens.
